Pastry 101

18th March'09 plan:

• bake a cake...any cake...to give Vanessa her '09 birthday surprise
  
• start thinking on what to bake: pastry? banana cake?
  
• candles? CHECK. flour? CHECK. other ingredients needed? errr...

so there i was in coles supermarket, selecting between different kinds of pastry sheets..
(prior to that, i asked one of the coles guy whether they have pastry sheet ard here, he just stare blankly @ me..man can u ask one of ur frenz there? cehh..)

then choosing amongst canned fruit...
so anywho, here's what i made:
Jammed mandarin pastry...
that's what i like to call it..hahaha

ingredients needed:

• 2 sheets of frozen pastry --> easy way...hihihi
  
• 1 egg --> beaten. i also add 1tsp vanilla paste to enrich the flavour
  
• 6 tbsp of jam --> i use nutella coz i love it. XD and the quantity depends on ur preference
  
• 1 can of mandarin fruit
  -pre-heat oven to 180 celc-

to simplify this whole thing:

1. so u cut the frozen pastry sheets as shown
2. peel the plastic n put it back to kitchen board for both rectangle and square cut pastry -watch out! it's sticky now-
3. spread the beaten egg on @ pastry
4. put the jam in the middle.as many as u like but remember, it'll melt l8r in the oven. so be moderate!
5. put the orange as shown n rolLlLl
6. place the rolled pastry-orange on top of the JaMmIfIed square pastry and splash with more egg

put in the oven for ard 20 until golden brown:

ps: don't u just loveee to see ur pastry when it start bulging and raise? =D

mine is a bit out of shape coz of prior minor problem in cutting and wrong calculation. XD

so there you go..
and if u like dolce pasticceria (or sweet pastry), you can sprinkle granulated sugar on top. it'll also make it even prettier. =D
