Wilshire Jakarta

Alas,
After more than 2 years being the absentee in the internet blabber world, I’m back!
And it’s not a comeback unless I’m tapping the most important hierarchy of human needs, food.
There’s absolutely something have been going on in my life for the past 2 yrs. But nothing in particular for stopping me in blogging. I certainly stop entertaining myself in writing since it becomes somewhat gym like. Meaning I love the feeling afterwards, for letting it all out of your system through sweat (and in blogging through words), but the initial get change-tie your shoe lace-warm up sesh (in this case transferring pics and prolonged thinking process on introductory words) has turn me otherwise.

HOWEVER! I’ve moved jobs now, still working with my dad, just into different office, and has more time to myself than the past, er…I dunno, almost 4 years of working with him? So I used much of the opportunity to browse the less imperative matter (pictures of cute corgis and weird cats behavior caught on camera), until I realize I have a blog that need my attention more than a pair of my needy black pump party shoe.

So the past year or so, I have:
  1. a boyfriend
  2. A very. Very Cute nephew named Kaizen (I assume it’s a ninja name. but watev)
  3. move 3 different offices
  4. Gain much much more weight (12 kgs to be exact). I’m at my heaviest at the moment, more than my high school fattest glory. They say it’s because I’m spending happy time with le bf. But we basically have one thing in common, food before anything else.
  5. Nothing else really. But I just prefer not to stop on the unlucky number of 4.

Onto the blogging stuff, to mark me and le bf 1st anniversary together, we went to Wilshire restaurant in Kuningan area. It fall on a Monday so we brave ourselves to drive across the city from west to south, fingercrossing from the go that we might not encounter the condemned traffic of busy hour. But it was fine. We had to use a lady jockey to avoid 3 in 1 area in the central for Rp40.000,- , in which only later we found out from a friend that it usually cost half of that.

So, Wilshire we went! 1st impression was awesome. More and more restaurants in Jakarta are adopting the industrial-warehouse deco and this one looks more towards upscale of it. Pretty lightings, might be too dark for those who are not looking for romantic time, comfy location in foundry 8 area, but might need more air conditioning for comfy stay.

Here are the foods we ordered, mind you there’s 2 of us that are worth of 3 normal empty stomach:

Foie Gras Sushi. Can’t resist ordering this bite size cholesterol when i saw it on the menu. The sauce was a bit too sweet, but I like it nonetheless.

Hmm.. I  can’t remember the name of this one. But it’s pork belly stir fry with spinach. And the sauce is once again a bit too sweet for me. I kind of get the impression that it is their signature style.

Ok now this one is slow cooked (24 hours) 55 degree beef. Honestly, I think I expected too much from it. First we order it, and then the waiter told us that they ran out of it, then after a few mins she went back to us and said they still have it. So I thought it must be pretty damn good. But the seasoning seems off. It might need a bit sprinkle from our 2 little friends on the table: salt and pepper shakers.

Strawberry and banana nutella mochi. I like this one 8). Nutella, strawberry, banana, covered with mochi are 4 best friends. I wonder why no other restaurants or cafes have adapted this on their menu. Maybe coz it needs a bit extra attention for the consistency of the mochi. But they can prepare it wayyyy overhead. *hint to other restaurants*

I was excited to see salted caramel cronuts on the menu, as I like both with equal amount. The cronut was nice, but the filling was way too salty. It was like eating sugar with ocean water. Less saltiness, and this one will be a bomb.

Apart from all these, there are 2 more things that we ordered (oh yes, 2 more). Spaghetti aglio olio with prawns and nutella soufflé, in which both I adore. Spaghetti was well seasoned and al dente, nutella soufflé was… well, for someone who is not a fan of soufflé, soft, crunchy and chewy gooey nutella was a good ending for a nice dinner.

All in all, it was a good dinner. Overpriced? Maybe. Good location for dinner seeker? Absolutely. Will I come back? There’s some other restaurants to dine and review.

Dust Dust Dust

Honestly, I don't have that much collection of shoes in the closet. I don't even consider it as a collection coz usually i wear only a few until they are torn down and need to buy a new one.
But the closet at home was getting full. and by full i mean overload. mainly not my shoes, but having 2 older sister and a mum means a serious pile.
so that's what i was doing with my mum on Sunday. Cleaning. Throwing away. Coughing. There were so much dust!
I looked like a ninja on a mission with a towel covering half of my face. But the dust is seriously unforgivable. and also all the rustic wooden debris or wtv u call it. it looks deadly creepy.

Anyway, I managed to find a few of my super oldies shoes, like this one:
Used it when i was on 6th grade for sports! So u can only imagine how old this shoe is. Have to throw it away before anyone start to think that i'm a kind of creepy old woman who pile all useless stuff just coz. Then i also found my converse collection which i don't use that much anymore. The white one was my all time favourite. Gotta say, i was contemplating to keep it, but i have no clue on what has been crawling in that closet or families of termite that has lived in it. So, i'm saying goodbye.

Then i found this one:
I don't even quite remember when i bought it. But it's gotta be mine coz i'm the bigfoot in the family, so none of my family member wear my size. I think i bought it when i'm still in college. maybe Vanessa will remember this one. ;)

Last one is cute. I like the vintage model with a modern color twist of it. but sadly this shoe, in which my sister bought it for me on the internet, is not comfy. at all. and was a size to small. lesson learned: NEVER buy shoes online. especially by making a mistake of selecting wrong size.

QP: Super Random

Hello July!
Starting the first day of the month with a healthy breakfast but end up having gastric. No Mylanta needed tho, which is good.
So, since my sister is married and currently living abroad, i have her former bedroom for my own. And after one month living in that cubicle, I haven't change much of its interior.
  • Reason no.1 is that my mom is not keen on seeing piles of my sis's stuff in boxes, coz that means it'll need space and that's what lacking in this house. space.
  • Reason no.2 is that i don't know what to do with it. i can move some stuff from my cupboard to decorate. but there's nothing else comes to mind.
So far i'm planning to buy a small sofa, coz bed is not an ideal place to play my laptop. and a bedside table. something vintage and pretty like this, which i found on Pinterest a few days ago:

If i couldn't found any good sofa, I reckon this totoro bed wud be awesome! If only they sell it here.. :(

Nb: sorry for no credit for the last pic. sent by my sis to my email.

Fook Yew, Checked!

so, there was this banner that i've seen for sometime now in the new "it" mall, Gandaria City.
I've been wondering what this "Fook Yew" boards was for.
Clothing apparel? Guy's Accessories?
after months and months of waiting, i finally found out that it was for a Shanghainese Restaurant.
Located in the ground floor of the mall, i was about to leave for home.
But this newly opened (just 3 days since opening when i came) restaurant looks interesting,
so we stopped for snacks and take away.

First impression was good, the interior was nice as it can be seen here:

then it was time to order.
drink was first, and they boast on bubble tea drink.
the menu was cute! divided to two: mocktail and cocktail.
waiter didn't really know the menu well, as he keeps making mistake when i asked on the drinks.
i end up ordering Tai Chi Master. mix of fruit and tapioca bubble.
here's Tai Chi Master:

overall, i gotta say it wasn't pleasant to wait for an hour for my Shen Jiang Bao after the first unfilling corn soup. as you can see, was too hungry to take the pic. then we found out that they didn't took our order of vege, in which we find furthermore that they sold out. to further surprise us, the bill stated of 2 portions of garlic broccoli that we didn't even order. which later when we waited for the new bill, came this waiter with the broccoli. it was quite stressful, but we managed to laugh through it and it seems that it was only our table that's having this problem.

Anyway, the manager was kindly enough to give us Rp50.000,- voucher for our next visit and apologize for the trouble. Told him it was totally understandable but they need to fix these things coz the food was GOOD. The Shenjiangbao is the closest one i could ever found to the BaoZi and street pancake in Beijing. the filling was superb, the skin was super thin sort of crispy soft version of normal Chinese Bao. the drink was refreshing tho a tad too sweet for me. I also brought home their beef horFun and requested for it to be packed in this box that the menu showed, in which the manager kindly approved:

So, will i get back to this place? Sure! I'm actually quite interested to taste their food. I believe there's heaps of good food in this place. They just need to work in the same wavelength i think, and i believe they'll learn to get used to it. Hopefully, everything will be settled by then and i can use my voucher with a very happy face and tummy.

June Random Thoughts

Feels like it's been ages since I wake up at 5am.
Pushing myself  for a shower.
put on uniform while my eyes can't even see the difference in colors yet
dragging my feet to get out of the house before 6.
Then way after all the business is done, with less than 30% of energy left,
i need to open the bag once more, making decisions on what to do next.
exams / homework / chill.

these are not what i miss from school
these are not what i intend to reminisce
but apart from all of that, there were things that I love about it.
things that will not ever happen again. perhaps.
the bell ring, the laughter, the nonsense talk with the teacher
the choice for lunch, the hang out, the group skip class.

Do i really want to do it all over again tho?
hmm..if i need to put it in axis (x=school, y=fun), it might not even have a slight bend towards the fun part
although i had such a lovely time during high school,
it doesn't mean i didn't get into trouble. friends or school.
maybe the reason of missing school is not even that significant.
its not about figuring out how to make the perfect knot on your tie.
or especially the sweat I dropped for trying to figure out what I've learned the night b4 the exam.
I think all of these comes to the the one reason.
company.

life in general needs others to survive.
once u are made too comfortable of the existance of friends at school,
we're just kind of thrown to the real world.
with only the slightest chance of group activities.
especially while at work.
from 40 people with one leader in a room, to 5 or 6 workers with your leader in another room.
no matter how close you are sitting with each other. there's always this "gap"
appropriate and not appropriate topic. time constrain to even have a descent conversation.

what i am trying to say is, some people has the hardest time once they get out of uni and spend time in workplace.
blues period.
I, for one, think that i almost passed that phase.
So, new-working-fella, this is certainly not the end.
ones just need to adapt to the new place.
I get it, what took u more than a decade to live in, certainly won't be easily replaced by one or two year in this new one.
it will take time. to let go. to accept. to get used to.
but trust me, it will all get better
as it will always be, everything will be all right at the end.

I wish someone had said these to me when I started working.
oh well.

28th may 2012

Dear my body,
I know u are on a strike on me today. Let us address our issues together and settle our differences at once. Shall we?
Head, why u feels a bit heavy today. Is it because of the super cold room last night?
Tummy u r also getting a bit weird lately. Chilli that i've been consuming really gets to u huh?
Nose, please stop blocking my airways. I need to breath and i hate it when i have to breath through ur friend, mouth.
Now throat, u always follow ur friend, nose over there when he's sulking.stop asking me for candy by hurting urself.

Ok, these are the main problems we're having. I'm sorry that it all comes to this. I promise I'll treat u all better. Here, i give u a 1000mg dose of vitamin c. Truce? Xx, Lo

Me L.O.V.E Nutella

me are back kiddos!

a long long time pause in my blog, a good re-entrance is always about food. so, here we go...

Like millions others out there, I’m a Nutella freak. Yes, those soft decadent incredibly luscious Hazelnut spread that never fails to deliver. He was there in times of sadness and happiness. A good friend for the soul and tummy.
So when I found this Nutella+cracker while I pay a visit to Italy, I go mad. Mad coz why on earth they don’t sell this back in Jakarta. We’re a land of many foods and snacks. You can even buy frozen Australian steak and kidney pie, for goodness sake (this were my breakfast the other day =D ). Why not this? As far as I know, this is a brilliant to-go-snack.

So I browse the other day, like I always do when I have nothing better to do. And found this:

They have EVERYTHING with Nutella flavor. Nutella sundae, Nutella Pizza, Nutella Burger, Nutella Nachos, Nutella Shake, and other Nutella Nutella Nutella!

When I found out it is located in Frankfurt, Germany, I go even mad-er. Why you always found awesome places to go right after you went to that place? While when I was there a couple of months ago, I was stuck with Indonesian food (yes, Indonesian). Don’t get me wrong, I started to sound like a mad woman who’s crazy about food now. Well, I do have this big passion on food. So yea, do get me wrong if that’s what this madness of happiness I found in food is called.

Ok. This is just a random post about my final exam friend, late chit chat munch with my Italian friend, and a friend who always remind me I’m close to home wherever I am. Cheers for a friend!

Ps: tho I love this friend of mine, I won’t go this far:

til next time,

cheeriooz
